The use of adjectives (Learn Chinese)

THE USE OF ADJECTIVES

AS

  • The use of adjectives in Chinese is peculiar, to describe something specific we do not use the verb “to be” but we put the Adjective, we add the particle “-de” to the Adjective, and then we write the Noun. So here, the rule we would apply to  is:

“ADJ+(DE) + NOUN”

  • In the event that the number of syllables of the noun is only one, we make use of the particle “de”, we simply apply the rule:

“ADJ + NOUN”

  • EXAMPLES:

Hen3 pian2yi dian4nao3 = IT’S A CHEAP COMPUTER

Wo3 zhi1qian2 mai3 pian2yi de dian4nao3 = I BOUGHT A CHEAP COMPUTER

Gui4 dian4nao3 = IT’S AN EXPENSIVE COMPUTER

Xin1 dian4nao3 = IT’S A NEW COMPUTER

  • REMEMBER:

dian4nao3 = COMPUTER

Pian2yi = CHEAP

Gui4 = EXPENSIVE

Xin1 = NEW

Zhi1qian2 = PAST PARTICLE

Mai 3 = TO BUY
